Even though she did not go home with an "American Idol" name, Kellie Pickler was one of the most popular alumni from the show. Kellie Pickler was born June 28th, 1986 in Stanly Memorial Hospital Albemarle. Her parents are Cynthia Morton and Clyde Raymond Pickler. The mother of the child was just 16 when she became pregnant with her. The childhood of Pickler was not easy as her father was addicted to alcohol and drugs, and her mother had left her when she was just 2. Morton had custody of her for a period of two years, but Pickler stated that the situation was unsettling. "I remember my mother and I were cooking in the kitchen when I remarked, 'I'd rather God could take me away, I'd much rather be dead than live here with you.' She got an old kitchen knife and placed it in the middle of the counter. And she then told her: "Here you go." I was in fourth grade. She told me "Of of course, I wouldn't do anything about the incident. It has nevertheless left me with a lot emotional scars." Pickler at the time, 12 years old, was handed over to the Morton's parents following the court hearing. Pickler was nurtured by her parents throughout her life. She has cited their influence as the main factor on her life. The year was January 2002 when her maternal grandmother Faye Pickler passed away from lung cancer. She was raised by her grandfather. Pickler was awarded her high school diploma from North Stanly in New London, North Carolina.
